Early Life
Marie Louise Yovanovitch was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, on 11 November 1958, to Mikhail Yovanovitch and Nadia Yovanovitch.
At an early age, Marie Yovanovitch fled to the Soviet Union and after some time to the Nazis. Later, she went to Connecticut, when she was only three. At eighteen, Marie Yovanovitch got naturalized American Citizenship.
Talking about her education, Marie Yovanovitch earned her graduate degree in 1976 from Kent School, located in Connecticut. Later, she obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree from Princeton University majoring in history and Russian studies, in 1980.
After taking BA, Yovanovitch further studied at the Pushkin Institute situated in Moscow and earned her MS degree from the National Defense University in 2001.
Career
In 1986, Yovanovitch began her political career by joining the United States Foreign Service.
As a foreign assignment, Marie served in Ottawa, Moscow, Mogadishu, and London. For two years she served as the Deputy Director of the Russian Desk in the United States State Department.
